| Eighteen health workers from across the country now have the opportunity to undergo extensive training as Operating Room Technicians.The trainees were inducted into a training programme during a ceremonyGail Gill, Clinical Supervisor (left,Adrian Wilson Cardinals Jersey, seated) and Soogrim Singh, Training and Development Manager of the GPH (right, seated) with the trainees of the Operating Room Technician Programmeyesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). These trainees are the fifth batch to join the training programme since its launch in 2012, and will undergo an entire year’s worth of training.According to Soogrim Singh,Ales Hemsky Jersey, the Training and Development Manager of the GPHC, the programme has so far celebrated a 100% pass rate. Singh said that when the programme first commenced it was limited to staff of the hospital. However, he said, other local hospitals indicated their interest in participating and had noted the need for their employees to be trained as well.The call from other hospitals saw the expansion of the hospital’s admission requirement.The fifth batch of trainees includes persons from GPH, West Demerara Regional Hospital,Nike Vapormax Plus Womens, Davis Memorial Hospital, Georgetown Medical Centre and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.The first nine months of the programme will see the trainees undergoing rigorous training,Deion Jones Falcons Jersey, while the last three months will involve preceptorship, a period of supervised practical training.Singh added that the students will be monitored periodically.Singh reminded the trainees of the importance of hard work and urged them to pay keen attention to the programme.“Don’t give your tutors any hard time; you are here to learn and whatever they instruct,A.J. She also reminded them that honesty was an important trait for the programme and said, too, that dishonesty could make a difference between the life and death of a patient.The training programme was launched with the mandate to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to provide competent pre and post-operative care and support to patients, provide in-operation assistance to surgeons, and to maintain the efficiency of operating rooms. |
